Occupational Therapy

........Optimise Living

Occupational Therapists make use of skilled treatment modalities that equip individuals to achieve optimal independence in all facets of their lives. The aim is to encourage and impart to people the skills necessary for independent and more fulfilling lives. Occupational therapists work with the disabled, the elderly, newborns, school-aged children, and with anyone who has a permanent or temporary impairment in their physical, spiritual or mental functioning. Occupational therapists help with rehabilitation of neuropsychological deficits including memory and attention as well as motor function, sensory function and interpersonal skills.

Occupational Therapists work closely with the multidisciplinary team including consultants, Doctors, nursing staff, physiotherapist, social workers and community teams to maximize patient’s independence, to prevent relapse and to maximize recovery.

As an Occupational Therapist specialising in Biofeedback it is important for me to assist clients to understand the impact that a dysregulated nervous system may have on their general health. To realise that with understanding your mind-body systems and learning new strategies, you can put the power back in your own hands with regards to how you approach the challenges of life with conditions like:

  • Sleep difficulties
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Attentional difficulties
  • Autism spectrum disorders
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Headaches
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Central Nervous system disorders

The therapeutic process in assisting our clients involves:

Learning about setting goals, selecting strategies to attain those goals, monitoring progress, restructuring if the goals are not being met, using time efficiently, self-evaluating the methods selected and adapting future methods based on what was learned in the therapeutic process.
